About Devon Dogs

Indi at Devon County ShowDevon Dogs is a small family-run business with a passion for dogs, their learning, their understanding and our relationship with them.

We currently hold the majority of our training at our main venue near Broadclyst in Exeter, where we are lucky enough to have the use of indoor and outdoor facilities.

Our central focus at Devon Dogs is Agility – currently the fastest growing Dog sport in the country. We have club members ranging from complete beginners and foundation level and those that just want to train for fun, right up to those who compete at Olympia and Crufts each year, and even some who have competed for their country at World Championship level.

As well as agility, Devon Dogs also hold classes for pet obedience (with various levels to progress through), puppy socialisation and training and life skills.

Whether you want to train your dog in pet obedience or agility right to the top level, or you just want to attend classes to help you build a better relationship with your dog in every day life, we will be able to offer you something. We welcome all types of dogs, all ages, breeds and sizes, and we welcome all handlers too, whether familiar in the agility arena or not, or an experienced dog trainer or not.

The Devon Dogs Team

The Devon Dogs training team has grown in the last couple of years, reflecting the growth in the club and the demand for more classes as people become keener to learn and progress. Our unique team has a wealth of knowledge and experience with dogs of all ages, breed and temperament, and are all experienced in their fields. All of the team members share our passion for and commitment to dog training and all train their own dogs with Devon Dogs in agility, life skills or puppy classes so they are very familiar with being students as well as instructors.

Our Head Trainer, Lauren Langman, competes at Grade 7 and Champ level, the highest rank of competition in the British agility arena, and was chosen to represent Great Britain in the World Agility Championships in 2006 and 2007. She has also qualified for the Olympia Agility finals in 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2011, as well as being nominated for the Agility Club’s National Awards in the category of Best Trainer in 2008 and reaching the top 3 status in the UK. Lauren also regularly trains internationally with, and for, one of the most successful dog trainers and agility competitors in the world, Susan Garrett.

At Devon Dogs our classes are small – there are no more than 8 handlers to a class – and weekly classes in agility or obedience / life skills last for 45mins – 1hour.

You will have the opportunity to meet your trainer before you start your first class, without your dog, to ask any questions you might have and for the instructor to give you any information you might need to know before you bring your dog in. The classes are progressive and we will start you in the class we think is relevant to your experience and skills.

The weekly agility & obedience/life skills classes run in blocks of 10 weeks and during this block you will be set exercises to work on during the class, as well as homework to build on during the week to help you develop. At the end of each block you should feel you have progressed from where you were 10 weeks ago yet still want to learn more. Once you are allocated a space in a class, that space is yours until you wish to move on to another class.

Maisie being a little monster! Our aim is to help you gain a focused, happy, fit dog and build a strong positive relationship that will last a lifetime. Our approach to training any dog is that it should first and foremost be fun and enjoyable for you and your dog, and based on positive reinforcement methods. If it is not, neither of you will learn, nor want to continue learning!

If you want to join a club with passion, enthusiasm and genuine expertise, and you want something professional, yet friendly and individual, then give Devon Dogs a try.
