Teresa Rouse - Assistant Trainer
Hi my name is Teresa Rouse, (the one responsible for Matt getting the Agility bug). I first became interested in Agility as a last resort to try and get my English Springer Spaniel (Jess) interested in something we could do together as opposed to her completely ignoring me and running as far and as fast away into the distance as possible!! Luckily for both of us it worked and she really enjoys it.  But it now means I no longer have evenings and weekends to laze around especially in the summer as we seem to be away training or competing.

12 months after Matt got Bailey (the first collie we have ever had) I decided to it was time for me to bite the bullet and get a collie for myself and along came Indy, an unusual Brindle colour. She has been hard work and I seem to have spent the last 12 months just getting her to focus on me with play and food, but at long last I now get at least 90% focus from her instead of 10% thanks to Lauren.  Hopefully I will be able to enter some competitions with her in 2008, however I will need to learn to speed up first.

When I started Agility with Jess 4 years ago it was as I said earlier just so we could do something together for a bit of fun and never had any intention to be honest of competing, so I was not that consistent with things like waits, contacts, front crosses, rear crosses and so on, so if Jess got a clear round or placing it is more by luck.  When Indy started her training I decided to take Matt's advise and came to Lauren, which has turned out to be the right decision.

Lauren concentrates so much on focus first, then teaching the dogs the most rewarding place to be is at the bottom of the contacts prior to actually letting them do the whole piece of equipment, which meant that the first time Indy went right over the A frame and the Dog walk she instinctively stopped.

She is now learning channel weaves which will enable her to drive through weaves with speed later.  I know this method of training will pay off, and will be the result of Lauren's positive training methods.  Well, done Lauren!!

And last but not least there is Tagg the sable collie, which belongs to my husband Gary. Who after suffering the last few years of accompanying me to shows decided if you can't beat them join them.  Not bad for someone who disliked dogs a few years ago!
