Find It Workshop, 3-Days of Search and Innovative Games
June 21 @ 9:00 am - June 23 @ 5:00 pm£325
What will we cover? Search and Rescue, Scent, Big Area Searches, Man Trailing, Building or Enclosed Area Search, Imprinting and Pairing!
Do you fancy seeing how your dog can literally sniff you or whatever it is you want to find…. would you like to put your dog’s nose to the test!
Scent Work is a positive, challenging activity which allows dogs the opportunity to use their strongest natural sense in a way that’s fun, engaging, that builds and strengthens a foundation of trust between the handler and dog. It is perfect for any dog and all ages and types of dogs are welcome! Some have a more natural aptitude to this kind of work but whatever the attitude of your dog, it’s a truly natural behaviour and it is so healthy and it’s simply great as a relationship BOOST! It also suits Naughty But Nice dogs who have either had a 1-2-1 with us or been on an intense or a holiday package!
Scent work is huge, and for us here at Devon Dogs it is a sport that mimics the task of working dogs to locate a scent (e.g., explosives, drugs, firearms, you name it our dogs are genius with their noses) and communicate to the handler appropriately that the scent has been found. It allows your dog to use their natural ability and strong working senses in a way that’s fun, engaging, and that builds and strengthens a foundation of trust between the handler and dog. It’s a true joy to watch and participate in and your dog will thank you for the opportunity to work with their instincts.
A few things we will cover over these 3-days:
- teaching your dog to search a specific scent and making pairings
- finding appropriate human scented articles
- setting up a search area
- searching for YOU
- teaching your dog to appropriately indicate
- laying a search trail
- the use of food and toys for search work
You will leave inspired and with homework to take you to the next level! It’s going to be awesome!
We are looking forward to having you train with us! To help us ensure you have the best possible training experience, please arrive at the time specified. Devon Dogs is a Centre of Excellence training facility and we want to ensure all class change overs are smooth and easy. For this reason, can you please ensure you and your dog remain in your vehicle until the trainer is present and ready for you.
We understand it is difficult to guess arrival times and we know you will have planned for the unexpected in your journey! Should you arrive a little early we recommend stopping at the Shell Services just off of the A30, only half a mile away from us. There is a Little Waitrose with tea/coffee and lots of healthy (or not so healthy!) snacks and prepared meals as well as toilet facilities. If you wish to go for a short walk, you can access the Granite Way in Sourton
