Positive Gun Dog Train the Trainer – Invite Only
7 February 2020 @ 10:00 am – 10 February 2020 @ 4:00 pm£425
This is a multi day invite only event for trainers and aspiring gun dog trainers. You don’t have to have experience to attend this event. You may also borrow dog’s for this event.
This workshop is for anyone with an interest in gun-dog training and who wants to find out more about the sport on any level. It will introduce owners to different core exercises which when put together and built up will create a great gundog for either competition, to work or just to learn some new challenging games to play with your dog. The exercises outlined below are just one element of the training, but the most important component is building a strong trusting partnership. This comes from using positive and kind methods of training and building up the dogs understanding in small achievable steps which we will show you at this event.
Please bring a packed lunch/snacks and a mug for a hot drink.
Through the 4-days we will cover the following:
- Sit stay
- Steadiness – dealing with any distraction
- Settle position – off switch
- Walk to heel
- Whistle cues
- Hold an item and drop to hand
- Directional cues
- Target training
- More challenging retrieves
- Turn taking
- Walk up introduction
- Hunting – holding an area for retrievers and quartering for spaniels
- Introduction to the sound of gunshots
- Games for anyone interested in working their dog at a shoot
- Other games will be played based on dogs attending the workshops and assessed on an individual basis looking at the needs of the group.
